Inspired by the groundbreaking field recordings of Alan Lomax and the direct cinema of the late ’60s. We travel all over the the country hunting for songs. We have done recordings at folk festivals, hotel rooms, back alleys, city parks, and front porches. We’re committed to making field recordings in the folk tradition for the 21st century.
The 50 feet refers to the length of the film stock of a Super 8 cartridge. This physical length is about 3 minutes of record time which coincidentally also mirrors the standard length of a song, a convention left over from the physical limitations of 78 rpm records. It’s within these confines that we set out to record original sessions of the songs of our time and document the songwriters working today.
We also believe that behind every good song is an even better story. In addition to shooting sessions, we are deeply interested in the personal narrative that surrounds the craft and reveals to us the beating heart behind the song.
